Can the IrDA port on the e-115 or the HP-545 be used to sync with an IrDA-equipped laptop/desktop PC? If so, how would the speed compare to the serial on the Casio, or the USB on the HP? (The laptop in mind is a Sony.)

TIA.

Yes it can. The speed may vary, but when I used to sync via Infrared Port, I got about the same as serial speed. To activate infrared syncing:

1. Right click the ActiveSync system tray icon.
2. Click on "Connection Settings..."
3. Check the first box, "Allow Serial cable or Infrared connection..."
4. Select the COM port your Infrared Port can use.
5. Now turn on your Pocket PC and...
6. Select "Start Menu" > "Programs"
7. Click "Connections"
8. Select "IR ActiveSync", and align the IR ports.

I have a Sony Laptop, yes it can, and the IrDA speed feels faster than serial even. I have both a serial cable, and IrDA at hand, and lately went for the IrDA. It also works for offline browsing.

Hi,
Some H/PC Pros support Fast IR which works at 4 megabits/second (IrDA 1.1). This is much faster than the 115.2k that IrDA 1.0 supports.
