Hi,
There should be an executeable such as iexplore.exe that is run. So renaming or deleting it should prevent it from executing. However this may prevent you from doing anything with the device if no applications run.

I doubt that you can rename explorer.exe, because it's running at the time. You can go into the registry and delete the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\init\Launch50 (whose value should be "explorer.exe") or rename its value. But then the device will just be stuck on the startup screen forever. The kernel is compiled to run Windows CE, so what do you plan to do? Run another Windows CE-based shell such as shell32.exe from Windows Mobile?

Hi guys, thanks for the replies. I was away at exams hence the delay. I am developing an embedded application which will run on top of the desktop, hiding any windows functionality. We are just worried that if the software crashes for whatever reason, and the user is presented with the desktop, that they can't access explorer. I will try deleting that reg key.
