Has anyone had experience using the IBM microdrive? Are the moving parts a problem?

HP has a promotion, giving $100 off the 340MB, reducing it to $399 or $75 off the 170MB version, reducing it to $324.

What storage solution is better for the CE device? Which one is more versatile (i.e. supports more types of devices)?

Thanks for any advice!

Hi,
CF flash cards and the Microdrive both are for data storage. The big difference is in the power usage. The Microdrive uses approximately 250 to 500 milliaperes while the flash card uses about 50. This means that your battery life will be signficantly shorter.

As for the moving parts, that has not been a problem in my experience. Mine has worked through bumps and drops just fine.

Many thanks for the info! That is a significant difference in power usage. I probably don't need that kind of capacity any way. Thanks again, you saved me from making a purchasing error.
