I have a (german) h3870 where all (Start->)Programs have apparently been erased. Everything else seems OK, including (Start->Settings).
Is there any way to blow life again in this PDA?

Which sorts of programs have been 'erased'? The programs which come with the Pocket PC by default cannot be erased, though it's possible someone deleted all the shortcuts from \Windows\Start Menu\Programs. If that is what has happened, then you would need to go into the \Windows folder and sort by Type in File Explorer, then scroll to the EXE files (you'll recognize them by their diverse program icons), then select all the ones you want to use. Maybe start by selecting all the programs, then later you can delete the shortcuts you don't want. Once selected by dragging the stylus down that list of programs, lift the stylus, then press&hold it on the selected group until a menu pops up. Tap 'Copy' from that menu. Then go to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs and use the bottom bar menu to choose 'Paste Shortcut' which should create new shortcuts for all those programs. You may then sort these into categorized sub-folders if you like, or just leave the whole mess in that menu root. Then test each one-by-one until you discover which ones are not really useful and delete those.

Or... you could just hard reset the device to bring everything back to factory defaults. If memory serves, with that device you press and hold the two outside front buttons while also pressing and holding the stylus into the soft reset hole, to delete all user changes and data and go back to default OS settings including shortcuts. Or maybe it's pressing the Power button while pressing Reset... sorry, it's been many years since I had a similar device.
